The “Sgoutas Architects” architectural office was established in 1961 by Kostas Sgoutas and Vassilis Sgoutas. The architectural background of the Sgoutas firm begins in the 19th Century * . During the period 1981 – 1994, a number of projects were undertaken by “V. K. Sgoutas Design Group” having as partners Vassilis Sgoutas, Themis Strongylos, Katerina Moustaki, Ifigeneia Skamnaki and Sofia Tzanetatou. Dimitris Sgoutas joined the “Sgoutas Architects” firm in 1999.
Projects have been carried out in Greece as well as in Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Iraq, Bahrain, Germany, Italy and Tunisia. Projects include public buildings and in particular multi-purpose halls, office buildings, commercial buildings, residential projects, industrial architecture, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, restoration work of listed buildings, interior architecture and exhibitions. The firm’s experience includes town planning, urban design and landscaping projects as well as consulting services.
Design projects, including bidding documents, have been completed in Greek, English and French. Clients include government and municipal authorities and also multinational and private sector companies. For the majority of the projects, the firm’s services have included supervision.
“Sgoutas Architects” have won numerous awards in competitions and have participated in several design / build teams that have won first places in competitions for projects that have been implemented.
“Sgoutas Architects” provide, with their collaborating firms, the complete package of architectural and engineering services including structural, mechanical, electrical, HVAC and fire protection as well as acoustic, security and energy savings studies.

VASSILIS SGOUTAS
Graduated from Cape Town University in South Africa. Established his own office in Athens in 1961. Works comprise several large scale projects in Greece and the Middle East, including public buildings, auditoria, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, landscaping and urban design. Numerous awards in competitions. Two of the 30 Ministry of Public Works ex-aequo prizes for the best implemented buildings in Greece and one of 9 ex-aequo awards for innovative housing.
Has participated in several activities of the International Union of Architects and was its President between 1999 – 2002. In 2019 he was elected Honorary President of the UIA.
The triennial “Vassilis Sgoutas Prize” was launched by the UIA in 2007.
Honorary Member of the architects institutes of Australia, Azerbaijan, China, Canada, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Mexico, Panama, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, USA and Foreign Member of the State Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences. Has been awarded the medal of the Magnesia Chapter of the Technical Chamber of Greece for his “lifelong contribution to architecture”.
His book “A Journey with the Architects of the World” (Jovis Verlag) was launched during the UIA World Congress of Architects in Seoul (2017). In 2020 it was translated into Mandarin.

DIMITRIS SGOUTAS
After graduating from the University of Dundee (BA in Architecture 1998) and obtaining his Master’s Degree from the Architectural Association (MA in Energy and Environment Studies 1999) Dimitris Sgoutas became a partner of “Sgoutas Architects” in 1999.
Work experience includes, apart from Greece, France and the U.S.A. Projects have been completed in Greece, Germany, Tunisia and Abu Dhabi and include, among others, office and commercial buildings, cultural and education facilities, residential buildings, industrial plants, renovation projects and landscape architecture. Experience in all fields of design has been enhanced with close supervision on most of the projects undertaken.
Throughout his career he has continued to pursue his professional development through participation in conferences and workshops and also publications and lectures. He has been member of boards and committees. His extracurricular activities include close involvement, in his capacity as Board member, with the Zanneion Foundation, a foundation that helps and educates underprivileged children.
