HAEF JOHN M. KARRAS KINDERGARTEN - ATHENS

The Kindergarten is located within the campus of the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation (HAEF) in the suburb of Psychiko. Together with Alexandros C. Samaras & Associates S.A., our firm executed the implementation design and was part of the supervision team.

The new kindergarten, 7500sq.m. in total, accomodates 300 children in 12 classes, two of which are accessible to disabled children. Each class entity includes the class proper as well as a locker/changing room and toilet facilities. Common facilities include a music room, a swimming pool, dining areas as well as  an artistic workshop, a library and a performances area. Facilities for the teachers and staff are located on the upper floor, parking is located in the two basement levels.

The principles of bioclimatic design formed the basis of the overall design i.e. an environment-friendly building with "green" roofs and low operation costs. The building has been certified with the Platinum LEED.
