Together with the refurbishment of parts of the existing Porto Rio 550-bed Class A hotel, the brief included the concept design for the addition of a new 600-bed Class A hotel complete with bungalows and a casino.

The external facilities of the narrow but large sea-front site are linked by pedestrian ways and also by access and service roads. Sports fields are located at the front of the site while a disco-bar is the principal outdoor structure envisaged in the beach-front area.

The limited sea-front was the determining factor for the design of the hotel. Thus the triangular fan-like basic form of the building complex enables all rooms to have a sea view.
