“Daidalos-Ikaros” project was developed in two consecutive
stages that included, firstly, the conversion of an existing industrial building
(Daidalos) into offices and a warehouse and, secondly, a new state-of-the-art packaging facility for pharmaceutical etc. products (Ikaros).
The existing building was almost totally overhauled, only the main structure (columns & beams) being retained. After reinforcements to the structure and the addition of a metal roof, all new functional requirements were put in place. Such were, principally, the three-level administration areas laid out in U-shaped form and a large single-level 11m high warehouse which completed the original square shape of the building.
The new packaging unit consists of two levels above ground and a basement. The positioning of this building on the site was crucial. Thus a large 40x40m space was left between the two buildings in order to visually distance them from each other and also to allow for the circulation and manoeuvering of trucks.
Special features of the 7000m2 facility are the brown-red fair-faced brick facades of the administration wings, the randomly placed windows, the contrasting light grey glossy metal panels and the dominant blue signage of the warehouse and packaging buildings.
