The Drama Conservatory was to be located in a central part of the city of Drama in northeastern Greece. This was an architectural competition project. Our firm won 2nd prize.
The competition design included a 300-seat auditorium, rehearsal rooms, one-on-one and group teaching rooms, backstage and support facilities and administration areas.
The dominating feature of the building is the double-storey inclined volume of the amphitheatre which protrudes from the single-storey spaces that surround it. A vertical metal “blank” element in front of the administration and entrance area signals the main entrance of the building and protects the internal areas from direct sunlight. An interior atrium allows for indirect natural light to penetrate deep into the reception areas.
